The Sokoto State Government has rolled out a ₦150 million flood recovery initiative to assist communities affected by last year’s flooding. The program targets residents in 15 local government areas, providing financial support to help them rebuild homes and restore livelihoods.
The state’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is coordinating the disbursement, working closely with local leaders to ensure that funds reach the most affected households. Each local government area is set to receive ₦10 million, which will be used to meet urgent needs and accelerate recovery efforts.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of natural disasters and supporting vulnerable citizens. He stressed that prompt action is crucial in helping communities recover quickly and prevent long-term economic hardship.
Officials emphasized that the program is part of a broader strategy to strengthen resilience against future flooding, including improved disaster preparedness, community awareness, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
The state government has called on residents to cooperate with local authorities during the disbursement process to ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution of relief funds.
