Bunmi Akinnaanu, the Nigerian gospel singer best known for her soulful worship anthem “Omije Ojumi”, has passed away, leaving the Christian music community in deep mourning.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday in a brief Instagram announcement by fellow gospel artist Ayo Melody, who shared the message on behalf of Akinnaanu’s family. The statement revealed that she died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” the family’s post read. “May God grant her eternal rest.”

Okay News reports that the late gospel minister had been battling health challenges in recent months, a struggle that drew prayers and support from fans and fellow worshippers nationwide.

In October 2025, Akinnaanu made an emotional appearance at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she sought divine intervention for a serious leg ailment. Footage from the service circulated widely on social media, prompting an outpouring of encouragement and prayers for her recovery.
