A Nigerian resident in South Africa has been rescued after escaping from kidnappers who abducted him during a visit to the South-East.
The victim was reportedly kidnapped by armed men while visiting his hometown in early January. The attackers took him to a hideout and later contacted his family, demanding a ransom for his release.
After days in captivity, the man managed to escape from the kidnappers’ den under unclear circumstances. While fleeing, he encountered a police-led joint security patrol operating in the Isulo area of Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Security operatives immediately took him into custody for protection and confirmed his identity. He was later reunited with his family in good condition.
The Anambra State Police Command said investigations are ongoing, adding that information provided by the victim will assist security agencies in tracking down the kidnappers and dismantling their criminal network.
Police authorities reassured residents of their commitment to sustaining patrols and strengthening security across the state to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes.
