Four lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn their earlier call for reconciliation and resolved to press ahead with the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The legislators said their initial appeal for dialogue was made in the interest of peace and stability in the state but was met with what they described as hostility and continuous attacks on the Assembly. According to them, instead of embracing reconciliation, the executive arm allegedly encouraged media campaigns aimed at discrediting the lawmakers.
They explained that the decision to resume impeachment proceedings was based on what they consider repeated constitutional violations and a breakdown of trust between the executive and the legislature. The lawmakers maintained that their actions were guided strictly by constitutional responsibilities and not influenced by personal, political, or ethnic considerations.
Reaffirming their position, the lawmakers stated that the impeachment process would continue unless the rule of law is fully respected, stressing that accountability remains their primary duty to the people of Rivers State.
