The Ogun State Police Command has initiated criminal proceedings against a social media blogger accused of cyberbullying and spreading false claims against Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state government.

Police authorities said the blogger allegedly used various online platforms to publish content considered defamatory and harmful, actions which they claim contravene provisions of the Cybercrimes Act. The case, involving several charges, has been filed before the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta.

According to investigators, the blogger failed to respond to multiple police invitations for questioning. Instead, a medical report was later submitted through her legal representatives, citing health reasons for her absence. Police, however, alleged that the document was not authentic.

Further investigations reportedly led to the arrest of a medical practitioner linked to the report. The doctor was charged separately for allegedly issuing a false medical document and obstructing the course of justice. Police claimed the practitioner admitted that the report was prepared at the blogger’s request.

The police command said steps are being taken to ensure the blogger is brought before the court to face the charges. It emphasized that while citizens are entitled to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to cyber harassment, defamation, or the deliberate spread of false information.
