Uzodimma Sponsors Holy Land Trip for Imo REC, 27 Electoral Officers

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has approved and funded a religious pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), several departmental directors, and 27 electoral officers.

The trip is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, with the officials expected to assemble at the Government House Chapel in Owerri for prayers before proceeding to the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport for departure later in the day.

Officials familiar with the arrangement said the delegation will leave Imo State by night for the Holy Land, describing the journey as a faith-based retreat.

The development has attracted public attention, coming at a time of increased political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections. Governor Uzodimma has recently remained active in national political engagements connected to the ruling party.

Some observers have raised concerns over the timing of the trip and the appropriateness of sponsoring electoral officials for a religious excursion, especially amid ongoing economic challenges in the country.
