Police in Kano have taken into custody a man believed to be the main planner behind the killing of his aunt and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area, a crime that has shocked residents and drawn strong reactions from leaders.

According to the Kano State Police Command, the prime suspect, 23‑year‑old Umar Auwalu, who is the nephew of the deceased woman, was arrested along with two other men after a swift intelligence‑led operation in the early hours following the incident.

The victims, a housewife and her six children, were found dead inside their home. Authorities say several items believed to be linked to the crime — including clothing, phones belonging to the victims, weapons, and cash — were recovered from the suspects.

Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed that Auwalu admitted to leading the attack and indicated that the group may be connected to other violent crimes in Kano.

Officials have pledged to continue their investigation and ensure all those involved face justice. Community members remain deeply disturbed by the killings, especially given the alleged involvement of a close family member.
