The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to introduce voter registration services at 207 additional centres across Plateau State to encourage more citizens to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The move is part of the commission’s second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began in January and will run until April 2026.
Speaking in Jos at a stakeholders’ meeting, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, said the new centres are expected to start operations in February if the plan is approved. He added that the expansion is aimed at making registration more accessible and increasing participation from eligible voters aged 18 and above.
Sadiq highlighted some challenges from the earlier part of the exercise, including incomplete registrations and a large number of uncollected PVCs, and urged residents to complete their registration and pick up their cards. He also warned that anyone attempting multiple registrations could face delisting from the voter register.
The registration process is open to Nigerians who have not yet registered, those updating their information, or those needing to replace or transfer their PVCs. Registration is scheduled from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday.
The move follows earlier concerns from INEC that many registered voters in Plateau had yet to collect their PVCs — a trend that underscored the need for wider access and outreach.
