Trinity Rodman, the United States international forward for the Washington Spirit, has signed a new three-year contract that makes her the highest-paid female footballer in the world.
The deal, which keeps the 23-year-old at the Spirit through 2028, is reported to be worth more than $2 million annually, including bonuses, surpassing previous earnings records in women’s football.
Rodman had been a free agent after her previous contract expired at the end of 2025, but she chose to remain with the Spirit amid strong interest from overseas clubs. The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) approved a “High Impact Player” mechanism allowing teams to exceed standard salary cap limits for elite talent, making the historic deal possible.
Rodman has enjoyed standout success since being drafted by the Spirit in 2021, including winning the NWSL title and earning Rookie of the Year honours. She has also been a key player for the U.S. Women’s National Team, contributing to their international success.
Her record-breaking contract not only reflects her elite status on the pitch but is seen as a milestone for women’s football, potentially paving the way for higher compensation for top players worldwide.
