Otti Urges NYSC Corps Members to Contribute to Abia’s Growth During Service Year

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on members of the 2026 Batch A, Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to actively contribute to the development of the state during their service year. The appeal was made during the swearing-in of 1,820 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

Governor Otti urged the corps members to view their service year not just as a statutory obligation but as an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact in the communities where they are posted. He emphasised the importance of dedication, discipline, and patriotism in all assignments.

Highlighting the state government’s efforts in human capital development, the governor encouraged corps members to take advantage of programmes in ICT, entrepreneurship, and agriculture as preparation for life after NYSC. He also assured them of ongoing improvements to the NYSC camp facilities, including infrastructure upgrades, better roads, and enhanced security.

Otti further noted that Abia has a history of rewarding excellence, with outstanding corps members potentially considered for automatic employment after their service. He stressed that their contributions could create opportunities beyond the NYSC year while helping to advance the state’s growth.

Event officials also commended the governor for initiatives to improve the welfare of corps members, such as increased allowances and enhanced living conditions at the camp, encouraging all members to stay committed and focused throughout their service.
