Mrs. Foluke Osafile, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Osafile represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I and currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation.
Confirming the defection on Saturday, the first-term lawmaker said the decision was motivated by her desire to better serve her constituents and promote effective governance.
“Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC,” Osafile said.
According to her, the move will enable her to work more effectively with party leaders and stakeholders to advance good governance and strengthen democratic institutions.
“I am fully committed to working with leaders of the ADC to ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected,” she stated.
Osafile reaffirmed her loyalty to the people of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, describing their trust as her guiding principle.
“This decision is taken in the best interest of my constituents and to secure a brighter future for our constituency,” she added.
She is expected to formally announce her defection on the floor of the House during plenary in the coming days.
Osafile was elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Segun Folorunso, by a wide margin.
Her victory was later challenged by the APC at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled against her. However, she approached the Court of Appeal and successfully reclaimed her seat, bringing the legal battle to an end. (NAN)
