NNPC, Chevron Announce Major Offshore Oil Discovery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has confirmed that the Awodi‑07 appraisal and exploration well, drilled in partnership with Chevron Nigeria Limited in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta, has yielded a significant presence of hydrocarbons.

Drilling operations for the Awodi‑07 well began in late November 2025 and were completed in mid‑December, with all activities carried out safely and in line with regulatory standards. After testing and data evaluation, the well was secured, marking a notable milestone for the NNPC/Chevron joint venture.

NNPC Ltd described the outcome as evidence of the strength of disciplined exploration and strong collaboration between both partners. Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari praised Chevron’s efforts and said the discovery reinforces confidence in the area’s potential. He added that the success aligns with strategic goals to boost production, enhance energy security, and increase national hydrocarbon reserves.

In the joint venture, Chevron holds a 40 per cent stake while NNPC Ltd owns the remaining share. The partners said they will work together to advance development of the newly identified resources in the coming months.
