Nigeria’s Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has announced a list of 48 judges being considered for possible promotion to the Court of Appeal. Ultimately, only 12 of the nominees will be recommended to fill current vacancies on the appellate bench.
The nominees come from a variety of courts across the country, including state high courts, the Federal High Court, the Customary Court of Appeal, and the National Industrial Court. The list features judges with experience in high-profile cases as well as those from diverse legal backgrounds.
The commission has opened the floor for public input, inviting citizens to share feedback on the nominees’ integrity, reputation, and suitability. This step is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the selection process.
Next, the FJSC will narrow the list before the National Judicial Council (NJC) conducts screening and interviews. Following this process, the NJC will forward its final recommendations to the President for approval and Senate confirmation.
