Sokoto Launches ₦758.7bn 2026 Budget to Drive Development

Sokoto State’s governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has officially signed the state’s 2026 budget into law, approving a ₦758.7 billion plan aimed at boosting development and transforming key sectors.

The budget, branded the “Budget of Socio‑Economic Expansion,” focuses on accelerating growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing living standards for residents. Implementation is set to begin immediately, with major projects slated for rapid execution.

A significant portion of the funds is allocated to sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives. The economy receives the largest share, while health, education, and agriculture are also prioritised to strengthen services and facilities across the state.

Officials revealed that 72 % of the budget is dedicated to capital expenditure for development projects, with the remaining 28 % set aside for operational costs — a structure designed to prioritise long‑term investment over routine spending. Governor Aliyu commended lawmakers for their cooperation and urged continued oversight to ensure transparency and effective use of the funds.
