Rival PDP Camp Schedules New Party Convention in Abuja Amid Leadership Dispute

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced new dates for the party’s national convention, setting March 28 and 29, 2026 for the gathering in Abuja.

The decision came at the close of the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in the nation’s capital on February 2. The group confirmed the schedule in a communiqué issued after the session.

In addition to fixing the convention dates, the faction said it plans to conduct ward and local government congresses in February, followed by state congresses ahead of the national event. NEC also expressed confidence in recent court rulings that favour its leadership and reaffirmed its call for unity among party members.

The move comes amid ongoing internal disagreements within the PDP, which have seen rival party camps hold separate meetings and court decisions complicating efforts to resolve the leadership crisis.
