Owerri Club Faces Sanctions After Missing NPFL Match

Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri are under review by the Nigeria Premier Football League after they failed to travel for their scheduled league match against El‑Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Monday.

The match never took place because the visitors did not arrive, resulting in a 3–0 walkover win being awarded to the home side.

The NPFL confirmed Kun Khalifat’s non‑appearance, noting that the club “failed to show up” for the fixture.

Under league rules, teams that miss matches without acceptable justification risk fines, automatic loss, and forfeiture of points and goals.

Kun Khalifat had requested a rescheduling of the game due to financial and travel difficulties following their previous match, but the league maintained the original kickoff time.

The NPFL disciplinary committee is now expected to decide on possible penalties for Kun Khalifat, while El‑Kanemi Warriors secure three points in the standings.
