A leadership dispute in Umuogbo‑Agu Autonomous Community in Igbo‑Eze North, Enugu State has escalated following the removal of a contender for the traditional ruler (Igwe) position by a local university.

The controversy began as various members of the community vied to succeed the vacant Igwe stool. Obiora Ngwu, considered one of the frontrunners, was reportedly dismissed from consideration by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) — a decision that has deepened disagreements among stakeholders.

Community leaders and supporters of the affected candidate have expressed dismay at the move, warning it could disrupt peace and fairness in the selection process. Some residents are calling for clearer guidelines and more transparent procedures to resolve the impasse.

Others are urging calm, appealing for dialogue among all parties, and emphasizing the importance of unity and respect for local traditions as talks continue.

The situation remains tense as the community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that will restore harmony and fairness in choosing their next traditional leader.
