Osun Officials Stress Screening and Education as Cancer Awareness Day Is Observed

In Osun State, officials from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have called on residents to prioritize cancer screening and reliable health information as the world marks World Cancer Day on February 4.

Speaking during activities in the state, the NOA State Director, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, emphasized the importance of regular health checks and early detection in improving cancer outcomes. He advised people to avoid misinformation and seek credible sources when it comes to understanding cancer risks and symptoms.

The 2026 global observance, themed “United by Unique”, highlights collective efforts and the distinct journeys of individuals affected by cancer, encouraging communities to act together in raising awareness and advocating for better care.

Health experts note that early screening and education are key tools in reducing late-stage diagnoses and increasing access to treatment, especially in areas where awareness and healthcare access remain challenges.

Officials have urged residents to take proactive steps, including regular check-ups, adopting healthy lifestyles, and participating in community awareness programs, to reduce the burden of cancer in their communities.
