The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a significant promotion exercise within the Nigeria Police Force, advancing more than 26,000 inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).

The promotions, affecting 26,119 officers, were confirmed during the Commission’s plenary meeting on January 29, 2026, with effect from January 5, 2026.

In the same exercise, senior leadership changes were also endorsed. Assistant Inspector‑General of Police Funsho Adegboye was promoted to Deputy Inspector‑General (DIG), while Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were elevated to Assistant Inspectors‑General (AIGs).

The PSC highlighted that the promotions were based on merit, following written examinations and oral interviews conducted as part of the Departmental Selection Board process. The move aims to strengthen career progression and reward performance within the force.

Commission officials described the exercise as a key milestone in recognising professional development and ensuring transparent and competitive advancement for officers.
