The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an official inquiry after one of its officers was accused of serious misconduct, including unlawful detention and sexual assault of a woman.

In a statement, the agency described the allegations as deeply troubling and stressed that they fall short of the professional standards expected of its personnel. The service said any breach of conduct will be addressed firmly and transparently.

The reported incident involved the officer allegedly detaining a woman without proper legal justification and subjecting her to inappropriate acts. The NIS confirmed that a full investigation has been ordered to establish the facts and ensure that any staff found responsible will face disciplinary and legal action.

The agency reassured the public of its commitment to accountability, emphasizing its dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of individuals.
