A coalition of retired public servants in Abia State has appealed to Governor Alex Otti to refrain from spending public funds on political campaigning ahead of the 2027 elections, saying his record of service should speak for itself. The group emphasized that diverting resources toward campaigns could undermine ongoing developmental efforts in the state.
During their regular meeting in Umuahia, the Concerned Abia Pensioners praised improvements in pension payments and other welfare initiatives under Otti’s administration. They acknowledged the governor’s efforts in addressing long-standing issues affecting retirees and called for the continuation of such programs.
The retirees expressed confidence that the governor’s performance would naturally earn him the support of voters, making costly political campaigns unnecessary. They stressed that public funds should instead be used to improve essential services, infrastructure, and the welfare of citizens.
Members of the group also highlighted the need for stronger leadership within the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the state. They argued that better organization and representation would help ensure that pensioners’ concerns are effectively addressed and their voices heard in governance matters.
The coalition concluded by urging Governor Otti to maintain transparency and accountability in the use of state resources. They emphasized that prudent management and continued focus on governance would strengthen public trust and further enhance the state’s development trajectory.
