The African Alliance Party (AAP) has declared its intention to head to court following its exclusion from the list of newly registered political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The group says the decision was unjust and does not reflect the efforts it made to comply with all laid-down requirements.
According to party officials, AAP completed the necessary documentation and fulfilled constitutional and regulatory conditions expected of associations seeking political party status. Despite this, it said its application was ignored while other groups were approved.
The party accused the electoral body of applying inconsistent standards in its review process and warned that such actions could weaken public confidence in the fairness of political participation ahead of the next general elections.
AAP leaders said they are prepared to challenge the decision through legal channels and will continue mobilising supporters nationwide while pursuing official recognition.
