Plateau State is currently grappling with a surge in Lassa fever cases, with health authorities confirming 11 new infections and four deaths. The state government says swift measures are being taken to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.

The cases have been reported across several local government areas, including Jos North, Jos South, Qua’an Pan, Shendam, Wase, Langtang South, and Mangu. Health officials have activated rapid response teams to manage the situation and coordinate treatment and containment efforts.

Among the deceased are patients who received care at major hospitals in the state, including Jos University Teaching Hospital, Plateau Specialist Hospital, and Bingham University Teaching Hospital. One of the victims was a healthcare worker who became infected while treating a patient.

Authorities are conducting extensive contact tracing and monitoring over 100 people who may have been exposed. They have urged residents to seek immediate medical attention if they show symptoms and to follow preventive measures such as maintaining hygiene and avoiding contact with rodents.

The state government continues to appeal to communities to cooperate with health officials, support awareness campaigns, and promptly report suspected cases to help halt the spread of Lassa fever.
