The Nigerian Army has kicked off its 2026 practical promotion assessment in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where 364 lieutenants are participating in examinations that could elevate them to the rank of captain. The exercise is part of the structured promotion process designed to evaluate officers on key military skills and readiness for higher leadership roles.
Addressing the candidates, the officer leading the examination congratulated those selected and described the event as a significant step in their military careers, emphasizing that success requires discipline, dedication, and the ability to apply knowledge in realistic scenarios.
The practical tests cover a range of competencies including map reading, communication, tactics, and physical fitness, with a focus on challenges such as counter‑terrorism and internal security. Candidates were also warned that any form of cheating or malpractice would lead to immediate disqualification to protect the integrity of the process.
Military leaders present reiterated that the outcome not only reflects academic ability but also an officer’s potential to perform effectively in real operational environments.
