Abia State Expands Digital Farmer Registry to Strengthen Agriculture

Abia State has begun the next phase of its ambitious digital farmer registration program, targeting farmers across the state to enhance food security and ensure government support reaches genuine producers. The initiative aims to modernize agriculture by creating a comprehensive, technology-driven record of farming activities.

The project, known as the Abia Agriculture Dynamic Database System, captures detailed information about farmers, their land holdings, crops, and production outputs. By replacing outdated and fragmented records, the system allows for more accurate planning, better resource allocation, and improved monitoring of agricultural programs.

Farmers must now undergo physical verification through field enumeration to qualify for government assistance. This strict validation process is intended to eliminate ghost beneficiaries and increase transparency in the distribution of farm inputs, financial aid, and other support programs.

Local government authorities in Bende, Ohafia, and Arochukwu have expressed strong support, committing to mobilize communities and ensure even farmers in remote areas are included. The database also integrates environmental and soil data, supporting climate-smart practices and providing the state government with reliable information for long-term agricultural development.
