Abuja — Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has promised to resign if the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road does not pass independent quality inspections. The minister made the declaration while defending the Ministry’s 2026 budget before the National Assembly.
Some lawmakers questioned awarding part of the project to a less-known construction company, expressing doubts about its capacity to handle the job. In response, Umahi emphasized that the road’s durability matters more than the contractor’s reputation.
“I’m satisfied with the quality so far,” Umahi said, challenging authorities to conduct thorough testing. “If it doesn’t pass, I will step down.” He stressed that proper supervision, not just material choice, is critical to lasting infrastructure.
The minister also highlighted broader funding challenges, noting that better financial planning is essential for timely completion of roads across the country.
