Activist Demands Probe Into El-Rufai’s Record, Dismisses Victimisation Claims

Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has called for a formal investigation into the actions of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, arguing that his recent complaints about being targeted are unjustified.

Adeyanju said authorities should closely examine key decisions and financial dealings from El-Rufai’s time in office, insisting that public officials must be held accountable after leaving power. He maintained that several controversies from that period still require clarification.

He also argued that it is ironic for former leaders to appeal to fairness and legal protection after critics allegedly faced pressure and restrictions during their administrations. According to him, accountability should apply equally, regardless of status or political alignment.

Adeyanju urged agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services to independently review past allegations and determine whether further action is necessary.

He concluded that transparency and the rule of law remain essential pillars of democratic governance and should guide all post-tenure reviews.
