The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that three bids have been officially submitted to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a key step in preparations for the tournament under a revised four‑year cycle.

CAF’s deadline for hosting proposals passed this week, and the federation received expressions of interest from:

Morocco, hoping to build on its recent experience of staging AFCON and its growing football infrastructure;

Ethiopia, which has revived its hosting ambitions with government backing and planned stadium developments; and

A joint bid from South Africa and Botswana, combining regional cooperation with existing sports facilities.

The 2028 edition will be the first held under CAF’s updated schedule, as the competition shifts from a biennial to a four‑year format. CAF executives are expected to review the bids and make a selection at an upcoming committee meeting, where other football calendar issues may also be discussed.
