The Academic Staff Union of Universities has rejected a recent staff promotion at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, describing the process as inconsistent with established academic guidelines.
Union representatives at the university said the procedure used for the advancement did not align with previously approved criteria and warned that allowing such actions could weaken standards and fairness in academic evaluations.
They maintained that promotion exercises should strictly follow the framework adopted several years ago, insisting that any deviation could create confusion and disputes among faculty members.
ASUU officials also urged the institution’s management to review the decision and ensure that future promotions follow transparent and widely accepted rules across departments.
