Rescue Nigeria Alliance Threatens Nationwide Protests Over Senate’s Election Results Upload Rule

A civic advocacy body, Rescue Nigeria Alliance, has urged the Nigerian Senate to bring back compulsory real-time electronic transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that public demonstrations may follow if the demand is ignored.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja, the group said recent legislative adjustments weakened earlier safeguards designed to improve transparency in vote reporting. Its leaders argued that instant digital uploading from polling units would reduce disputes and boost voter confidence.

The coalition maintained that removing strict requirements for live result transmission could open the door to manipulation and post-election controversies. It called on lawmakers to urgently revise the provisions to make technology-driven reporting mandatory nationwide.

The group also challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue strengthening its digital infrastructure, saying credible elections depend heavily on open and verifiable result management systems.
