Mbeke Community in Ebonyi State Appeals to Government Over Claimed Destruction of Family Properties

Residents of Mbeke Autonomous Community have submitted a formal complaint to state authorities over the reported clearing of long-standing family houses and inherited lands, saying the action has disrupted livelihoods and displaced several households.

In their petition, addressed to Governor Francis Nwifuru and other senior officials, community representatives argued that the exercise was carried out without proper consultation or agreement with affected families. They described the properties as ancestral assets passed down through generations.

Local leaders say the situation has heightened tensions in the area, with villagers calling for an independent review of the decision and immediate support for those impacted. They insist that any land or development action should involve dialogue and verified approvals.

The petitioners are asking the state government to halt further clearing activities, investigate the circumstances surrounding the operation, and establish safeguards to prevent similar disputes in the future.
