Bishop Onah Warns Against Intimidation and One-Party Politics in Nigeria

A prominent religious leader has sharply criticised current and past political administrations in Nigeria, alleging that leadership strategies have contributed to national disunity.

In a recent statement, Bishop Onah voiced concern over what he described as intimidation tactics and coercive politics under different governments. He contrasted the leadership approaches of former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Tinubu, saying that both styles were harmful to democratic harmony.

According to the clergyman, the previous administration relied too heavily on pressure and fear, while the present government is attempting to consolidate influence by encouraging widespread alignment with a single political party.

Bishop Onah warned that such dynamics risk undermining the diversity and pluralism essential to Nigeria’s political system. He called on both leaders and citizens to promote genuine dialogue, tolerance, and respect for differing viewpoints as the country navigates ongoing challenges.

He also urged political actors to prioritise unity over partisan interests, emphasising that peaceful co‑existence and inclusion are vital for lasting stability and progress in Nigeria.
