The acting chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT‑IRS) has urged residents and businesses in Abuja to meet their tax obligations to support the city’s development. He emphasized that timely registration, filing, and payment of taxes are crucial for funding and maintaining essential services and infrastructure.

He noted that tax revenues help finance public health services, education, sanitation, roads, bridges, and other facilities that improve quality of life. A strong internal revenue base, he explained, allows the city to undertake long-term development projects without overreliance on federal allocations.

Speaking at a recent forum on revenue harmonization and new tax laws, he described taxation as a shared responsibility that enables communities to invest in their own futures. He warned that failing to pay taxes undermines Abuja’s capacity to deliver key services and would be addressed under the law.

Officials highlighted visible improvements in satellite town expansion, public building construction, and connectivity as examples of what can be achieved when residents comply with tax laws. They called for voluntary compliance to sustain the city’s development momentum.
