The Rivers State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndi‑Igbo has rejected claims by former militant leader Asari Dokubo that Igbo residents are targeting Muslims in the state, calling the allegations baseless and inflammatory.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the group said reports of a recent market clash in the Rumuokwurusi area have been misrepresented. The incident involved individuals from Benue and Hausa communities after a dispute between a trader and a wheelbarrow pusher.

Ohanaeze described Dokubo’s online video as misleading and intended to create distrust between communities. They emphasized that Igbos are not hostile toward Muslims and that Christian and Muslim Igbos continue to coexist peacefully.

The group also noted that the Rivers State Police confirmed there is no evidence linking the Igbo community to any destruction of mosques or the market clash.

Ohanaeze urged the public to ignore the social media claims and encouraged Igbo residents to remain law-abiding and not be provoked by unfounded remarks.
