President Bola Tinubu has announced a new initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education in Nigeria’s South East region. The program will cover the cost of registration for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams for 50,000 eligible students, providing them with a chance to pursue tertiary education without financial barriers.

Speaking at the launch event, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of education as a driver of national development. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and equitable access to educational resources.

The program, coordinated with local educational authorities, will prioritize students from underprivileged backgrounds. Officials confirmed that the registration process would be fully digital, with guidance centers set up in major towns across the region to assist applicants.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, calling it a significant step toward reducing financial obstacles for young Nigerians. Many see the initiative as a model that could be replicated in other regions to ensure that financial hardship does not hinder academic potential.
