Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El‑Rufai continues to be held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the agency investigates allegations of financial irregularities during his tenure.
The former governor reportedly appeared voluntarily at the EFCC office and has been under questioning for several hours, as investigators examine contracts, loans, and other financial transactions linked to his administration.
A close aide of El‑Rufai said he is cooperating fully with the commission and maintains that he acted within the law while in office. Meanwhile, EFCC officials have indicated that the inquiry could take time due to the volume of records and documents under review.
This detention comes amid broader scrutiny of his administration’s handling of state funds, with separate security-related charges also filed against him in court for alleged unlawful communications interception.
El‑Rufai has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the allegations are politically motivated, and has promised to defend his record through the legal system.
