Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has reportedly been taken into custody by operatives of the Department of State Services shortly after he was released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
According to officials familiar with the development, the former governor had just concluded questioning with the anti-corruption agency when security personnel arrived and moved him to another facility for further inquiries. The exact grounds for the new action were not immediately disclosed.
Sources within the security circle said the move is tied to a separate line of investigation different from the issues earlier handled by the anti-graft body. Authorities have not yet issued a detailed public statement on the matter.
His aides, meanwhile, described the situation as unexpected and said they are seeking clarification from the relevant agencies while consulting legal representatives on the next steps.
