Appeal Court Reverses Ruling, Relieves Adamawa of Multi‑Billion Naira Judgment Threat

In a significant legal win for the Adamawa State Government, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside an earlier judgment that had ordered the government to pay a huge sum of money to businessman and politician Ned Munir Nwoko.

The dispute began when Nwoko filed a lawsuit seeking payment of about ₦48.2 billion from the state government. An initial default judgment by the Federal Capital Territory High Court granted his claim and directed banks nationwide to freeze the state’s accounts until the debt was satisfied.

Adamawa challenged both the judgment and the bank freeze order. After hearing arguments in December 2025, the Court of Appeal delivered its decision in February 2026, upholding the state’s appeals and nullifying the previous orders. The case has now been sent back to the FCT High Court for a fresh hearing.

State officials described the appellate ruling as a major relief that protects public funds while the legal process continues.
