Two Killed in Lagos Container Truck Collision

Two people lost their lives early Wednesday in Lagos following a collision between two fully loaded 40-foot container trucks on the Cele inward section of the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the crash, which occurred around Mile 2, claimed the life of one truck driver and a second victim described as a suspected miscreant. LASTMA said the truck driver (vehicle registration T-392 LA) was trapped inside the cabin after the impact and later pronounced dead. The second victim was found beneath one of the trucks, though the circumstances of his presence at the scene remain unclear.

Rescue and recovery operations were conducted by LASTMA’s emergency team, with technical support from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The Nigeria Police Force, Ilasa Division, secured the area, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit later evacuated the bodies, allowing traffic to gradually resume along the busy freight corridor.

The incident has been handed over to the Ilasa Police Division for investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged operators of articulated vehicles to strictly observe speed limits and safety regulations, especially during night operations. Motorists were also advised to drive cautiously and report hazardous situations promptly.
