The Coalition for Good Governance (CGG) has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to allocate its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, cautioning that any failure to do so could threaten national unity and weaken the party’s chances in the next general election.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the coalition, made up of former national party chairmen and past presidential candidates drawn from the country’s six geopolitical zones, described the proposed zoning as both a moral obligation and a strategic necessity.
The National Chairman of the CGG, Sir Okey Chikwendu, alongside the National Secretary, Attah Ikeleji Ikeleji, reaffirmed the group’s dedication to democratic principles, fairness, and national cohesion. They argued that Nigeria’s current political and economic challenges require deliberate power balancing to promote unity and strengthen the opposition’s credibility ahead of 2027.
According to the coalition, zoning the ticket to the South would help address growing national divisions and boost the ADC’s electoral prospects.
“The country is deeply polarised and facing significant economic hardship. Ensuring fairness through zoning is not only morally right but also politically strategic. It offers a pathway to both electoral success and national reconciliation,” the group stated.
The CGG further warned that failing to clearly resolve the zoning issue could trigger internal disagreements within the ADC and undermine its preparedness for the 2027 polls.
