Kaduna Congress: APC Chieftains Protest Alleged Marginalisation in Chikun, Kajuru

Prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency have raised concerns over what they describe as the marginalisation of their area in the ongoing party congresses in Kaduna State.

In a statement, stakeholders from the constituency expressed disappointment that despite their population strength and consistent electoral support for the APC, no representative from the area was included in the Kaduna State Organising Committee for the congresses.

The statement, signed by APC chieftains Samaila Leeman and Cafra Casino, noted that Chikun/Kajuru has played a significant role in the party’s past electoral victories and therefore deserves fair representation in party structures.

They argued that the exclusion contradicts the APC’s professed commitment to equity, inclusiveness and fair representation. According to Leeman, the development could negatively affect the party’s fortunes if not urgently addressed.

The leaders further lamented that the constituency currently has no representation in the Kaduna State Executive Council, stressing that stakeholders from the area should at least be actively involved in decision-making processes at the state level.

They also described as troubling the alleged sidelining of key political figures in Chikun Local Government Area—including former members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly, former commissioners, heads of agencies and former local government chairmen—in the constitution of both local government and ward congress committees.

Leeman maintained that, in line with party traditions and democratic norms, the highest-ranking political office holder in a local government area should ordinarily be entrusted with overseeing the congress process, a principle he said was not followed in Chikun.

The group warned that continued exclusion could alienate a critical segment of the APC’s grassroots base and weaken party unity ahead of future elections.

They called on the party’s national and state leadership to review the situation and ensure that Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency is adequately represented across all party structures, reaffirming their commitment to working with the APC to promote inclusivity and internal democracy.
