Names of Voters Omitted at Abuja Polling Station

During Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory Area Council election at the Durumi II polling unit in Abuja Municipal Area Council, dozens of voters were left unhappy after discovering that their names did not appear on the voter register posted at the site. Many people who had lined up to cast their ballots could not locate their names, particularly those whose surnames began with certain letters.

Several residents said they checked the list carefully but found whole sections — including names starting with C, E, H, and I — missing from the sheet displayed for verification. One affected voter said he was confident he was registered and was confused when his name failed to show up.

The unusual omission sparked frustration among voters and some party agents, who accused election workers of poor preparation and suggested the mix‑up might work against certain participants. Disagreements even broke out among party representatives over how the situation was being handled.

Other residents also complained about what they described as weak coordination at the polling unit, saying that the process lacked clear communication and organisation — adding to delays and tension in an otherwise important civic exercise.
