Chad Seals Frontier with Sudan Over Rising Security Threats

The government of Chad has ordered the indefinite closure of its border with Sudan following escalating violence linked to the conflict across the frontier.

Officials said the decision was taken after repeated incursions by armed groups involved in Sudan’s ongoing war, with clashes near border communities raising fears of the crisis spilling into Chadian territory. Authorities described the move as a necessary step to protect civilians and maintain national stability.

All cross-border movement of people and goods has been suspended, although limited humanitarian access may still be allowed under strict conditions. The government also signalled readiness to respond firmly to any further violations along its borders.

The closure comes amid intensifying fighting between Sudanese forces, which has increasingly affected neighbouring regions. Security analysts warn that continued cross-border tensions could deepen instability in the wider region if not contained.
