President Bola Tinubu has appealed to the 10th Senate to accelerate the passage of constitutional amendments that would allow the creation of state police in Nigeria.
Addressing an interfaith breakfast in Abuja, the President highlighted the urgent need to decentralize policing, arguing that empowering states to manage security locally would improve response times and reduce crime at the community level.
He stressed that rising insecurity across the nation requires innovative solutions and collaboration between federal and state authorities, noting that state police could serve as a vital tool for tackling crime more effectively.
Tinubu also called on lawmakers and religious leaders to support initiatives that promote peace and stability, urging all stakeholders to work together in strengthening both security and community trust.
