A group of Efik professionals has thrown its support behind the ongoing scientific review of oil‑well allocations tied to Cross River State, calling it a crucial step toward undoing years of economic setbacks linked to past administrative decisions.

At a statement in Calabar, the group’s chairman said the evidence‑based verification being pursued will help address historical imbalances that have hindered development, jobs, and infrastructure in the Efik community.

The professionals praised the state governor for backing the scientific approach and welcomed the federal government’s establishment of an independent technical committee to oversee the process, saying transparency and fairness are essential for cooperative federalism.

According to the group, recent allocations based on administrative records instead of thorough hydrographic and reservoir data have deprived Cross River of its rightful resources and revenues.

They described the verification as lawful, technically sound, and consistent with constitutional provisions, emphasising that it aims to clarify how oil‑resource derivation should be calculated to reflect actual resource locations.
