Senate Moves Against CAC Chief Over Alleged Disregard for Legislative Oversight

Nigeria’s Senate of Nigeria has taken a firm stance against the leadership of the Corporate Affairs Commission, calling for the removal of its Registrar-General following repeated failures to honour invitations from lawmakers.

The decision comes after mounting frustration within the red chamber over what it described as consistent non-compliance with legislative summons. Senators expressed concern that such actions undermine the authority of the National Assembly and weaken accountability mechanisms expected of government agencies.

During deliberations, lawmakers stressed that public officials must remain answerable to elected representatives, particularly on matters involving oversight and governance. They warned that ignoring invitations from the legislature sets a dangerous precedent and could erode institutional respect.

The Senate therefore urged appropriate authorities to take decisive action, insisting that adherence to constitutional responsibilities is non-negotiable for anyone occupying public office.
