Digital Transport Rollout: Otti Unveils Affordable E-Bus Fares Across Abia

Governor Alex Otti has announced a new fare structure for the state’s upcoming electric bus system, signaling a major step toward modernizing public transportation in Abia.

According to the governor, commuters traveling between Umuahia and Aba will soon pay between ₦700 and ₦800, while trips to Ohafia are expected to cost around ₦1,000. The fares are part of a government-backed subsidy aimed at making transportation more affordable for residents.

Otti revealed that the electric buses will begin operating within days, adding that the system will mark a shift toward a cashless transport model. Passengers will be required to pay using cards, as cash transactions will not be accepted.

The governor emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to embrace digital innovation and improve service delivery across the state. He noted that the nearly completed Umuahia Bus Terminal will serve as the central hub for the new transport scheme once it is officially commissioned.

He expressed optimism that the project would ease movement for residents while also positioning Abia as a forward-looking state embracing global trends in urban mobility.

Otti concluded by expressing hope for improved economic conditions in the coming month, urging citizens to remain optimistic as new developments unfold.
