Authorities in Ghana have revealed that dozens of their nationals have died after being caught up in the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

According to officials, many of those affected initially left the country in search of better job opportunities abroad. However, they later found themselves recruited into military operations linked to the conflict. Some individuals are also believed to have been detained during the fighting.

The government expressed deep concern over the tactics used by recruiters, noting that unsuspecting citizens are often targeted with false promises of employment and financial stability. These schemes have reportedly exploited vulnerable youths seeking a way out of economic hardship.

In response, authorities say they are stepping up efforts to track and dismantle recruitment networks, while also working to sensitize the public about the risks involved. Citizens have been urged to thoroughly verify any overseas offers and avoid arrangements that could place them in dangerous or unfamiliar situations.

Officials emphasized that the conflict is not one that Ghanaians should be involved in, warning that the consequences of such deception have already proven devastating.
