The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Joash Amupitan) has assured Nigerians that the 2027 general elections will be the best the country has experienced, even as he cautioned that absolute perfection remains unattainable.

Speaking at a Citizens’ Town Hall on the Electoral Act 2026, Amupitan emphasized the commission’s commitment to credibility, transparency, and the electronic transmission of results. He noted, however, that the public should temper expectations regarding real-time uploads from polling units nationwide. “We will strive as much as possible to deliver a high-quality election, but we cannot promise a 100% perfect one,” he said.

Amupitan highlighted the commission’s preparedness to manage the complexities of elections in a large and diverse democracy like Nigeria. He reaffirmed that INEC possesses the technical capacity to transmit results electronically and is dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance transparency and public confidence in the process.

Reiterating INEC’s commitment to a peaceful and credible poll, the Chairman expressed optimism that growing voter awareness, combined with institutional experience, would improve the quality of the electoral process. Observers noted that his remarks were a strategic effort to balance optimism with realism, setting the tone for a pre-election season marked by scrutiny and heightened expectations.
