Hon. Chijioke Chukwu has officially assumed office as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, following the successful conclusion of the party’s state congress. Chukwu, a former Minority Leader in the Abia State House of Assembly, was elected through a consensus decision by party leaders, ensuring a smooth transition of power and unity within the APC ranks.

The congress, which was marked by an atmosphere of peace and collaboration, also saw the election of several other key officials. Chidi Avoaja was appointed State Secretary, Uche Aguoru as Publicity Secretary, and Benedict Godson, the outgoing Publicity Secretary, was elected Assistant Secretary. These leadership changes are expected to bring fresh momentum and direction to the party.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, hailed the congress as a demonstration of unity and stability within the APC. He emphasized that the consensus-based approach in electing the new leadership was essential for promoting inclusivity and strengthening the party’s presence in the state. Kalu also stressed that the new leadership would be instrumental in enhancing the party’s structure in preparation for future elections.

Donatus Nwamkpa, the National Organizing Secretary of the APC, also commended the roles of key party figures like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, for their efforts in ensuring a seamless congress process. He expressed optimism that the newly elected executive would reposition the APC for greater political success in Abia.

In his acceptance speech, Chijioke Chukwu thanked the party members for their trust and support. He pledged to lead the party with humility and a clear focus on strengthening APC structures at all levels across the state. Chukwu’s leadership is expected to push for greater unity within the party, which he believes is key to achieving political success in Abia in the upcoming elections.

The congress, held under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and attended by security personnel, was widely regarded as a well-executed event that reflects the APC’s commitment to transparency and good governance. With the new leadership in place, Abia APC is now poised for a renewed push in the state’s political landscape.
